From the seashores of Karachi to the landscapes of Liverpool, I have been forunate to spend my entire life in coastal regions. When I first visited Gulfport, I was inspired by the calm beautiful shores of this region. The people were welcoming, and unlike Liverpool, the weather was very pleasant and predictable. Soon after the interview, I realized that the faculty was very supportive and that the culture was full of eagerness to learn. It was clear to me that I would be privileged to train at this wonderful institute.

Internal Medicine is a specialty driven by curiosity. For me, it is the only field in Medicine that celebrates complexity by rewarding a multidisciplinary approach. At Memorial, I am really looking forward to broadening my experience in clinical and academic medicine. My interests lie in pursuing a career in Cardiology.

I am a huge motorsports fam. My idea of an ideal day is a Formula 1 race along with a BBQ with friends and family in the backyard. Being a motorsports fan, I am naturally excited by cars and automotive engineering. I also enjoy watching cricket, but only when Pakistan and England is playing. Outside of Medicine, I am also interested in Astronomy and Physics. I enjoy going on long drives and exploring nature, as long as I am not asked to climb a mountain or go hiking, which I am sure I would not be able to do anyway.

I was born and raised in Biloxi, Mississippi. I earned a BS and MBA from Mississippi State University, a JD from University of Mississippi, and a DO from William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

I like to travel, cook, fish, and shrimp. I’m an animal lover and have numerous dogs and cats. I work with a rescue group that fosters animals. I enjoy spending time with my husband and little boy, Stanley.

Coming from the land of hospitality and rich culture, I carry those values with me. One quote that stays with me is, “The service you do for others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth.” It reflects both my approach to life and my motivation for pursuing medicine.

When I stepped into Gulfport for the first time, it felt surprisingly familiar. The warmth of the people, the strong sense of community, and the atmosphere reminded me of my hometown. As I explored the Gulf Coast, I fell in love with the area and knew it was where I wanted to pursue my residency training.

I am excited to begin my journey at Memorial and look forward to serving this wonderful community.

I was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana and attended LSU for my undergraduate degree in Anthropology. From there, I moved back to New Orleans to get my masters in Molecular and Cellular Pathobiology before starting medical school at Tulane University. I’m here in Gulfport for only a short time as I complete my PGY-1 preliminary year before going on to get my training in radiology.

I have wanted to be a doctor for as long as I can imagine, and although I am only spending a year in internal medicine, I am excited to work and learn alongside some incredible physicians.

Over the next year, I plan to enjoy my time on the coast by sharing my hobbies of cooking, Formula 1 racing, and crafting with my fellow residents.

Mahendra Kumar, MD

I was born and raised in Bikaner, a city in Rajasthan known for it s rich cultural heritage, magnificent forts, and vibrant traditions. After graduating from Sardar Patel Medical College, I practiced medicine in India while pursuing further training and earned the MRCP (UK) diploma.

My journey from Rajasthan to the Mississippi Gulf Coast has been both challenging and rewarding, and I am excited to begin my Internal Medicine training at Memorial Hospital Gulfport.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy sports and fitness, road trips, and exploring new places. One of my favorite adventures was completing a solo motorcycles ride through the Himalayas and northern India. I enjoy meeting people from different backgrounds and hearing the stories that shape their lives, a perspective that I hope to bring to every patient I care for. Growing up in the Thar Desert and now beginning residency on the Mississippi Gulf Coast has allowed me to experience very different parts of the world, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue that journey at Memorial.

I grew up in Mississippi and attended the University of Mississippi, where I studied Biology. After graduating from Ole Miss, I attended medical school at William Carey University and completed my clinical rotations along the Gulf Coast. I’m excited to continue training in this community and hope to pracetice in south Mississippi after residency.

I am interested in pursuing a career as a hospitalist or completing a fellowship in cardiology.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy crocheting, fishing, and watching The Office. I also, enjoy spending time with my family and friends.

I am originally from Hyderabad, Pakistan, and Gulfport appears to be a welcoming community. Its friendly people, peaceful surroundings, and strong sense of community make it seem like a place I could soon call a home away from home.

At the heart of this environment is our Program Director, whose leadership appears to have fostered a culture of kindness, support, and belonging. From everything I have seen and heard, he has built more than a residency program–he has created a family where residents feel welcomed, valued, and encouraged to grow.

Beyond medicine, I find joy in life’s simple blessings–spending meaningful time with my family and sisters, often surrounded by the pwace and beauty of nature. I cherish my clutural and spiritual values, which keep me grounded and connected to my community. I also enjoy cooking and exploring different cuisines, especially Mediterranean and Chinese dishes, appreciating the rich flavors and spices they bring to the table. Quiet walks, open skies, and peaceful landscapes remind me of the wisdom and grace of the One who created and sustains this world.

I come from the bustling and ever-growing city of Hyderabad, India, a place know for its rich culture, diverse heritage, and world-famous biryani.

My passion for medicine and lifelong learning brought me here to the United States.

Moving to Gulfport and living by the beach has been a completely new experience for me. One thing that I found common to both places is people–their friendly, supportive, and welcoming nature, making it easy to feel at home. I’m very excited to be doing my residency here.

I enjoy meeting new people and am always happy to have a conversation about just about anything. I like watching and playing sports. I am a huge soccer fan. Professionally, I aspire to pursue a career in critical care medicine.

Originally from Vadodara, Gujurat, I graduated from GMERS Medical College in Valsad, a coastal city that gave me an appreciation for life near the beach. When I visited Gulfport, I felt an instant connection to the area.

The supportive faculty and residents at Memorial Hospital made my decision easy, and I am excited to continue growing both personally and professionally here.

In my free time, I enjoy listening to music, going for nature walks, staying active, and learning more about nutrition and preventative medicine. I hope to pursue a career as a hospitalist or rheumatologist in the future.

I received my undergraduate degree in Cytogenetics from The University of Texas at MD Anderson Cancer Center. I then moved to Clinton, MS where I pursued a Masters degree from Mississippi College. I attended Medical school at Lincoln Memorial before making Gulfport my home!

What made Gulfport stand out was the people. Everyone I met was genuinely invested in helping each other succeed, and it felt like the perfect place to train.

On my days off I like to hike, paddleboard, try different foods and spend time with family and friends. I am really looking forward to getting involved with the community!

I am originally from Missouri and moved to Mississippi in 2007. What started as a move quickly became home. Mississippi has given me lifelong friendships, a love for the outdoors, and most importantly, my wife, Callie. Whether I’m hunting, fishing, golfing, or spending time on the water, I enjoy everything the Gulf Coast has to offer.

I am honored to begin this next chapter at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport and am grateful for the opportunity to serve the people of the state that has given so much to me.

I am from Skardu, a town in the northern region of Pakistan renowned for its majestic mountains. I was so excited to move to Mississippi, as I completed all of my clinical oserverships here. I previously resided in Tennessee with my husband.

I am truly looking forward to growing both personally and professionally here, and I am excited to contribute to the team and embrace the opportunities this new chapter brings.

My world revolves around my three and a half year old daughter, Ayezal Basit. Whether we are exploring new interests or just enjoying the day, I’ve found that adopting her passions has become my favorite way to recharge and connect.
