About Dr. Schepens

Steven Schepens, MD is a 1996 graduate of the University of South Alabama College of Medicine and completed his residency in 1999 at the University of South Alabama Department of Family Medicine. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine and a former assistant professor at the University of Alabama Department of Family Medicine. He has more than 20 years of experience treating all aspects of medical care but is particularly focused on management of chronic disease such as diabetes and hypertension.

About Gretchen Holmes, Ph.D

Gretchen Holmes currently oversees all medical education, including graduate medical education and clinical research, for Memorial Hospital at Gulfport. As the Designated Institutional Official (DIO), Dr. Holmes has the authority and responsibility for all ACGME-accredited programs sponsored by Memorial Previously, Dr. Holmes served as the GME Director of Research for multiple hospital systems and as the DIO/Director of GME for Orange Park Medical Center in Orange Park, Florida. Dr. Holmes is an experienced researcher, having published in numerous top-tier journals. She regularly teaches courses at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Behavior Change Theory and has served as a national-level patient advocate for the National Cancer Institute for 15 years. Dr. Holmes holds a bachelor of science degree in communication and a master of arts in communication and media ecology from New York University and a Ph.D. in health communication with a graduate certificate in medical behavioral science from the University of Kentucky.

About Dr. Smith

Dr. Benjamin Smith was born in Brookhaven, Mississippi, and has resided on the Mississippi Gulf Coast since 2010.  He is a summa cum laude graduate of Mississippi State University and then received his MD degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Tennessee, in 2010.  Dr. Smith joined the United States Air Force in 2006 and did his residency in internal medicine at Keesler Air Force Base.  After completing residency in 2013, he remained at Keesler as part of the teaching faculty in the Internal Medicine Clinic and served as the Outpatient Medical Director. Following 7 years of active duty service, Dr. Smith transitioned to the Air Force Reserves where he continues to serve.   In 2017, he became a full-time hospitalist for Gulfport Memorial Hospital and was also elected as a Fellow in the American College of Physicians. At Memorial, Dr. Smith serves as the Inpatient Medicine Department Chair and Co-Medical Director of the hospitalist group.  He is married to Dr. Mandi Smith and they have two children, Addison and Paxton.

About Dr. Tuli

Dr. Tuli received her medical degree and completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She then practiced Internal Medicine in the United States Air Force for several years prior to completing a Hematology-Oncology fellowship and specialty training in bone marrow transplant at Wilford Hall Medical Center/Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas.  In 2007 she moved to Mississippi as faculty for the Keesler Medical Center Internal Medicine residency program. Since 2009 she has been practicing hematology-oncology at Memorial Hospital of Gulfport. She has served as faculty for Merit Health Wesley Internal Medicine Residency program since 2016 and the Memorial Family Practice residency of Gulfport since 2021.
