Family Medicine Curriculum

Our block schedule was designed like most block schedules, to incorporate the core curriculum followed by more specialized learning. We did, however, make a few changes. We have incorporated more experiential learning opportunities provided by attending physicians who demonstrate exceptional teaching and research abilities.

Rotations

  • Rotating through community-based clinics, a local FQHC, and the health department for your community health rotation.
  • Conducting home care and hospice visits with geriatric physicians, licensed nurses, and social services staff.
  • Providing high school athletic medical care, as well as, community education through local schools.
  • Completing research projects with financial support for conference attendance and presentation. Assistance with writing manuscripts for publication is available.
  • Collaborating with local researchers such as the National Diabetes Obesity Research Institute (NDORI) or become part of the study team on one of our clinical trials being conducted at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport.
  • Completing projects in Quality Improvement under the guidance our talented QI staff.

  • Night Float – 2 weeks
  • Infectious Disease – 2 weeks
  • Urology – 2 weeks
  • Pain Management – 2 weeks
  • Emergency Medicine – 4 weeks
  • Geriatrics – 4 weeks
  • ICU – 4 weeks
  • NICU – 2 weeks
  • Inpatient Pediatrics – 2 weeks
  • Orthopedics – 4 weeks
  • ENT – 2 weeks
  • Ophthalmology – 2 weeks
