About Rev. Gilliland

Rev. Martin S Gilliland completed his Master of Divinity and residency at Concordia Seminary, St Louis, Missouri. He is originally from the United Kingdom and served in Her Majesty’s Royal Navy and British Merchant Navy. He has travelled extensively and lived in various countries throughout the world. It was after leaving the Navy that he attended Concordia Seminary and graduated with a Master of Divinity in 1997.  His first parish was in Baltimore, Maryland and it was here after visiting several hospitals/patients that he knew he wanted to be a hospital chaplain. In 2006 he was accepted into the Clinical Pastoral Education residency program, beginning at St Peter hospital, Olympia, WA and completing his residency at EGJH Metairie LA.  It was during his residency that he was introduced to Palliative Care at which he completed a residency. He is a Board-Certified Chaplain through the Association of Professional Chaplains. He is passionate about Palliative Care and has been an instrumental part of Palliative Care at MHS from his first day in 2009.

He is invited to speak and teach about Palliative care and Bioethics at various facilities, organizations, and churches during the year.

He lives with his wife Sandy (RN) and their cat Miska in Picayune. He is an avid reader, enjoys travelling – especially going back to the UK.

About Dr. Jalal

Dr. Shwan Jalal completed medical school at Sulaumani School of Medicine in Iraq and finish his internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at St. John Medical Center in Michigan. Originally from northern Iraq, he graduated from medical school in 2006. He finished his fellowship in general cardiology in 2016, followed by interventional cardiology in 2017, where he also was chief fellow during his interventional fellowship. He is board certified in internal medicine, general cardiology and interventional cardiology, echocardiogram, and nuclear cardiology. He currently works as an interventional cardiologist at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport and Merit Health in Biloxi. His passion is complex recalculation in both coronary and peripheral artery disease. Dr. Jalal had multiple presentations at ACC and TCT meetings and has multiple publications in both research and peer case review. 

He lives with his family in Gulfport, has a son and daughter. He enjoys playing and teaching soccer with his kids.

About Dr. Malik

Dr. Umair Malik went to medical school at the Aga Khan University, Pakistan, completed his Internal Medicine Residency training at the Cleveland Clinic, OH, followed by a fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases at the University of Minnesota, MN and a fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at the Medical University of South Carolina, SC. He is currently completing his MBA at Johns Hopkins University. Outside of medicine, Dr. Malik likes to spend time with his family, and is a cricket tragic.

About Dr. Hamid

Dr. Hamid is a Board-Certified Internal Medicine physician, she completed her residency at the University of South Alabama. For the past three years, she has served as a Hospitalist and Core Faculty at Memorial Hospital Gulfport, where she has contributed to both patient care and the academic development of residents.

In addition to her clinical experience, she holds a Master’s degree in Medical Education from the University of Pennsylvania. Her professional interests focus on Curriculum Design, Resident Wellness, and innovative methods to integrate education with gamification.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending quality time with family, exploring new travel destinations, and discovering diverse cuisines.

About Keaton

Dr. Keaton entered into the United States Air Force in 2011. He received his MD from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center – Shreveport in Shreveport, LA. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium in San Antonio, TX. Dr. Keaton moved to Mississippi in 2018 and served as Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine residency at Keesler Medical Center for two years prior to separating from the Air Force and taking his current position as a Hospitalist at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport, MS.
